Research visit in Costa Rica
LELAM-TVET4Income project coordinator Patrick McDonald travelled to Costa Rica in May 2023 for a number of events organised by local system actors and to visit LELAM project partners at INIE, University of Costa Rica. At the National Apprenticeship Institute (INA) he gave a talk to staff on permeability and governance of TVET systems, and with representatives of the Ministry of Education (MEP) he led a lively discussion on the social institutions of education programs and education-employment linkage in Costa Rica’s upper-secondary VET schools. Patrick was a keynote speaker at the Encuentro Esencia H+ event, where he spoke to all Costa Rica’s technical school principals about the importance of permeable education pathways, and had the pleasure to visit the Colegio Técnico de Ulloa, a technical secondary school near San José. It was wonderful to see Costa Rica’s great progress and talk about continuing partnerships. Thank you to Silvia Camacho Calvo, Jacqueline García Fallas, and Clyde Caldwell Bermúdez for organising the activities and making the visit such as a success!
